Carve Mag response

My response to Carvemag-

In response to looking at Carve mag and its layout I decided to create my own magazine layouts inspired by them. After looking at the magazine and exploring similar compositions I came up with these three pages. The starting points of this little project was to create a magazine out of my work from this personal investigation so far to explore creating compositions and layouts using adobe indesign. These pages were inspired by Crave mag and their minimalistic layouts. I have learnt how to use adobe indesign and have learnt how to adapt my style to fit the style of other brands which I think is a important skill. My favourite page from this section is the first one- this is because the page is full and the image looks really effective as a whole spread in coordination with the writing. I think the positioning and font of the writing works really effectively to bring this page together. The other two pages I found less successful as I count find the correct images to put together and the overall outcome of them is bit to simple as there is lots of negative space around the writing. For the second page I liked the outcome however the image lacked colour and with the white page next to it I found it was too much blank space. I tried turning the text into different colours however this didn't work, therefore next time I would like to explore this further to try and make it more packed. Page 3 is kind of effective in my opinion- the little portrait works well to add more to the layout however I found the images on the right don't really match because of the colouring as they are both intensely saturated. I am pleased with the work I have produced however I don't think it is my style and won't be using this in the magazine as it is too minimalistic. In the future I need to find a way to incorporate large blocks of text into a layout without having a plain page to make it more interesting but still look effective.
